this competition was based on the idea that protecting our heritage resources—buildings, structures, landscapes, and neighbourhoods, is fundamentally about enhancing the meaning and quality of life, maintaining a unique sense of place, supporting the cultural and economic vitality of our cities, and improving the health and sustainability of the environments we inhabit :

july 10 - 30 : a splash of colour

"once i started painting, i could not stop : the ideas of design and colour kept flowing : either conscious or not, the paintings kept forming in my mind and the creative process would not allow me a moment’s respite : i literally existed, moment by moment, excited, enthralled with colour and design : fabulous, addictive feeling : " - s.c.


august 2008, tba : twenty + change

twenty + change is an exhibition of contemporary architecture, landscape, and urban design projects : the exhibit features built, in-the-works, and speculative projects by twenty designers and firms working in toronto : the intention of the exhibition is to showcase work by emerging practices and designers who have yet to receive widespread public and media attention : toronto has a rich community of young designers who continuously push the limits of their discipline, setting a new agenda for innovation, invention, and social and physical environmental quality : by presenting the products of a new generation of designers, twenty + change foreshadows the near future of architecture, landscape, and urban design in toronto :

weston collective is a professional art association of culturally diverse, ethnic artists living in the weston road area, west north york of toronto, who strive to enhance the  cultural-economical milieu of their neighborhood through art : the collective was founded in june 2007 by germinio politi, paul aiello and chris alade-zeaqraht with george calle and joe ferrari as foundation members : although the collective foundation membership is located in west north york, membership is open to wide ranges of professional artists across toronto :

may 2008 : contact photography festival

featuring shelley wildeman : "presence"

shelley wildeman is a photographer living in toronto : her subject matter consists primarily of bold, slightly surreal cityscapes with human presence : she deals with themes of memory, passing of time, nostalgia and observations on how people occupy public space :

april 2008 : poto:type

the results of an open architectural ideas competition organized by potogroup from vancouver : the competition questioned the emerging typology originating in vancouver's downtown area, inviting participants to explore, rethink, and experiment with new ideas that would challenge the concept of the podium/tower typology : the projects challenged the logic of the present, investigated macro and micro scale, examined the notion of 'vertical sprawl', formulated new questions, and facilitated variations that would allow new potential for living and existing in the city :

april 1213: "junction city" weekend : centennial celebrations

the junction was incorporated as the city of west toronto on april 14, 1908 : join us to celebrate the junction's 100th anniversary : a weekend of free activities, including an historic photo exhibit at urbanscape gallery :

march 14 - 29 : ed/3d : floor show

ocad at urbanscape : models and environmental design

these models (from second and third year environmental design studios) represent only one aspect of the work within environmental design – that of three-dimensional model making : they are the tip of the iceberg : we are not seeing the research or the sketches, plans, sections, elevations or perspectives, let alone the virtual computer modeling of the building : the range, scale and complexity of our programs and our imagined worlds are vast, but models give us something material and measurable : they represent the physical manifestation of creative thought and creative process in the shaping of our built environments :

a group exhibition focused on exploring city themes : the experience of urban living, the people, the buildings, the spaces, the relationships, and whatever else : we asked artists, what defines your city for you? :

january 17 - 30 : design matters : 2007 tsa poster exhibition

this exhibition showcased the 2007 poster competition organized by the toronto society of architects (tsa) and the design industry advisory committee (diac) : the purpose was to create an image celebrating architecture and design in toronto, by engaging any and all design disciplines :

jan 3 - 16, 2008 : featuring Andy Warhol : his album covers

in the mid 1960s, warhol adopted the band the velvet underground, making them a crucial element in his multimedia performance art show : he also designed the cover for their 1967 debut, the velvet underground and nico : the cover is so iconic that the album is often referred to as "the banana LP" : 
a collection of andy warhol album covers, including his covers for the rolling stones and the velvet underground, will be on display at urbanscape gallery :


december 5 - 23 : art affordable II : holiday show & sale

a holiday show and sale, with special holiday prices : each piece of art is $200 or less : featuring : iliya blanusa, norbert dan, ulla djelweh, irena dukule, penelope edgar, sue ennis, benjamin frisch, sonja gomes, bianka guna, ivan martinovic, magda mihaly, louise mould, and jackie ramo


november 21 - december 1 :
cover art : a retro celebration of the LP legacy

as LPs and all things retro swing back into style, there are those of us who remember buying our first records : the enjoyment of not only the music, but of the band, the image, the cover art that we chose to define ourselves at that moment in time : recapture that memory of your first, your favourite, or your most sought-after LP :  all LPs come with an album frame ready to display it :


october 18 - 31 : shohreh hamzei - the last three years

this exhibit showcased shohreh's recent experiences painting in canada, with the people of the world and canadian nature as her subjects :

the oaa awards offer the ontario architectural profession an annual opportunity to present its best work to a public and professional audience; it advertises the excellence of both individual award winners and the profession as a whole; it fosters a greater appreciation of architecture and architects among all levels of society, professional and non-professional :
